The Emergency Antibiotic Kit
(EAK)
A physician-reviewed, Colorado-only preparedness option for medically appropriate adults who want a structured plan for select emergency bacterial infections and contaminated wounds.
The EAK Is . . .
The Emergency Antibiotic Kit is a structured preparedness system that combines medical screening, physician evaluation, pharmacy-dispensed antibiotics, organized storage, and clear use guidance.
It is intended for emergency situations where appropriate medical care may be delayed or unavailable.
The EAK Is Not . . .
A treatment plan for routine colds, flu, viral illness, or minor symptoms
A pharmacy or medication dispensing service
A substitute for emergency care
A way to avoid medical evaluation when care is available
A guarantee that antibiotics are needed or appropriate
The EAK Process
1. Eligibility Screen
You complete a medical eligibility screen covering health history, medications, allergies, pregnancy status, contraindications, and emergency-use understanding.
2. Physician Review
A Colorado-licensed physician reviews the submitted information and determines whether the EAK is medically appropriate.
3. Prescriptions Sent to Pharmacy
If appropriate, prescriptions are sent electronically to a pharmacy. The pharmacy fills the prescriptions, provides counseling as required, and collects medication payment directly from the patient.
4. Organized Kit Setup
Medications remain in their original pharmacy-labeled bottles. The EAK case and reference materials help organize the bottles and provide field-use guidance.
5. Annual Review
The kit should be reviewed periodically for expiration dates, changing medical conditions, new medications, new allergies, and updated guidance.
When the EAK May Be Appropriate
The EAK may be appropriate for select emergency scenarios:
Contaminated wounds
Bite wounds
Selected skin and soft tissue infections
Selected water-exposure wounds
Selected infection scenarios where medical care is delayed
Final use guidance depends on the specific prescriptions, patient factors, and written instructions provided.
When to Seek Medical Care
The EAK is not intended to replace urgent or emergency medical care. When appropriate care is available, it should be used.
Some conditions require in-person evaluation, procedures, IV antibiotics, imaging, surgery, or hospital-level care. The eligibility screen and written kit guidance are designed to help identify situations where medical evaluation should take priority.
Antibiotic Safety
Antibiotics can cause serious side effects, including allergic reactions, severe diarrhea, drug interactions, tendon injury, photosensitivity, heart rhythm effects, and rare life-threatening reactions.
Antibiotics do not treat viral illnesses such as colds, influenza, COVID-like illness, most sore throats, or most bronchitis.
Use only as directed in the written kit guidance and only in circumstances where medical care is delayed, disrupted, or unavailable.
Colorado Availability
The Emergency Antibiotic Kit is currently available only to patients located in Colorado.
Readiness Medical is a Colorado-based medical practice, and EAK review is currently limited to Colorado-based care.
Medical Suitability
The EAK is intended for medically appropriate adults after clinician review.
Pregnancy, breastfeeding, pediatric use, significant immune compromise, complex medical conditions, serious medication interactions, or allergies to certain antibiotics may require individualized evaluation, modified recommendations, or a different program.
Completion of the eligibility screen does not guarantee prescriptions. It helps determine whether this type of emergency preparedness kit is medically appropriate.
Pricing
EAK evaluation and kit pricing will be listed here.
Medication costs are paid directly to the pharmacy and vary by pharmacy, insurance status, medication quantity, and discount programs. Readiness Medical cannot guarantee pharmacy pricing.
